Australia

States

Australia is divided into six states, two territories and other territories continental minors. The states are New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD), South Australia (SA), Tasmania (TAS), Victoria (VIC) and Western Australia (WA). The two mainland territories are the Northern Territory (NT) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).



Climate

Australia is the driest continent and flat, and which has less fertile soils. Only in the southeast and southwest there is a temperate climate. The northern part of the country, with a tropical climate, has a vegetation consists mainly of rainforests, forests, grasslands, mangrove swamps and deserts. The climate is heavily influenced by low-pressure systems that produce seasonal tropical cyclones in the northern region.



Flora and Fauna

While much of Australia is desert or semi-arid, it exists in a wide range of habitats, from alpine heath to tropical rainforests. Due to the great age of the continent, the low fertility of its soil, its different climates extremely variable and its long isolation from the rest of the continents, the Australian biota is unique and diverse. Approximately 85% of plants with flowers, the 84% of mammals, more than 45% of birds and 90% of coastal temperate fish are endemic. The native animal species known include monotremes (the platypus and equidnas); marsupials, Australian marsupials are characterized by the variety of its adaptive species, and are carnivorous and herbivorous species and evolutionary convergence by rodents or seem that seem canidos between marsupials are highlighted various species of kangaroos, koala and wombats, Tasmanian devil and (extinct in the 1930s) tilacino or "Tasmanian tiger", and birds such as the emu, bird lira or the cockatoo, among mammals native in the spotlight flying squirrels. Swinburne has five campuses in Melbourne and one in Sarawak, Malaysia. Our main campus is in Hawthorn, located in a prestigious neighborhood and central to 7 kilometers from the city center, also is surrounded by cafes and bookstores of the famous street Glenferrie Road, with a supermarket and a train station, which are virtually within the campus.
